ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & THEIR MEANING: CAN MACHINES FIND PURPOSE?

Tracing the whole start to the beginning of things when God formed man out of the dust on the seventh day, and he spoke and said, “Let us make man in our own image…” US there represented the Trinity, and it informed us God himself made in His own likeness. The Garden of Eden taught us that God created everything for man’s comfort and gave man wisdom. Wisdom to name the animals. Wisdom to till the grounds (as they needed to be tilted). Wisdom to build, to sow and to reap.

In the Garden of Eden, he warned on a particular tree: The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Here, God made us understand He gave and has shown us all just as He has, but there were things which He as a Father knew our knowledge of could bring both harm and good, the disobedience led to the first sin committed.

Now, coming again to wisdom and knowledge. God gave us wisdom and knowledge [“I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me,” Philippians 4:13] and we sought for more and disobeyed. Good things are good but not all good things are good.

The invention of Artificial Intelligence was created by Man and the knowledge was founded by God; the Bible says He is the one who gives us the power to will and to do. AI was once a conception before it was brought to light and actual production. Humans were created with purposes in life, and wisdom has been given to knowledge gained from our wisdom from God has made our progress fruitless, and the products of this knowledge are idols.

The Bible says in Psalms 135: 15-18, “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths but do not speak, they have ears but do not hear nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them BECOME like them so do all who trust in them.” These are the exact qualities of an AI as prophesied: no breaths in them, they are almost like inanimate objects with no life in them yet we so much trust and depend on them for work, day-to-day activities, almost everything. AI is good but it has taken too much from us.

Sociologists have reported that man-to-man social relationships have diminished due to the internet, and slowly it is sucking away the littlest details. It gives us what we want and we pay our time in return forgetting anything that controls our time controls our destiny. Man has yielded his trust, focus and purpose to AI, it is why we were warned in Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.”

It takes humility to submit and trust God. I would conclude that Artificial Intelligence is an ideal example of the Tree of Good and Evil God warned us about – AI gives good while slowly and subtly injecting evil into our system of things.

AI has a human-centred purpose but is also subtly taking a divine purpose from us and misleading us into a separation between us and God. Isaiah 59:1, “Behold, the hand of the Lord is not shortened that he cannot hear but your inquiries have made a separation between you and your God.”
